Porsche 911 'Turbo' concept to feature at Hampton Court
13 May 2024|75 views
The Hampton Court Palace Concours of Elegance will has announced that it will be featuring the original 1973 911 Turbo 'Prototype' for its 2024 iteration.
The car set to be on display is the very machine that starred on the Porsche stand at the 1973 IAA Frankfurt Motor Show, introducing the concept of a turbocharged 911, and setting the template for a performance car legend.
This concept is said to have been created by Porsche to give an indication of what such a 911 would look like, offering both performance and grand touring luxury. Finished in striking one-off silver with a hand-painted 'Turbo' script, it previewed the production ‘930’ Turbo that would appear two years later.
The actual car utilised a standard 911S as its base, and is said to have featured a modified conventional naturally aspirated engine with additional components - including the Turbo itself - mocked up in wood and painted to look real. However, it has since been fitted with a genuine turbo motor, and is now ready to delight audiences at Hampton Court Palace later this year.
The iconic 911 will star alongside 60 other concours cars drawn from leading private collections the world over. Tickets to the event are available here.
