Porsche Taycan Turbo GT set to become Formula E safety car

After setting lap records at the Laguna Seca and the Nordschleife, the Porsche Taycan Turbo GT has now been tasked with a new honour: To serve as the safety car in Formula E.
Two variants of the Taycan Turbo GT - with, and without the Weissach package - will soon appear at the Berlin E-Prix weekend, on 11 and 12 May 2024, during which they will take on the role of the on-duty and substitute safety cars.
Specifically, the Taycan Turbo GT with the Weissach package will take on the leading role - replete with its fixed rear wing, omitted rear bench, and exclusive Purple Sky Metallic paintcoat. The standard Taycan Turbo GT, on the other hand, will join in on the action in Shade Green Metallic.
Both cars will sport appropriate modifications for the job, including warning lights (and related electrics), high-tech communication equipment, and fire extinguishers.
Porsche states that its provision of safety cars to Formula E helps to signify the importance of the sport to the brand. In previous iterations, the Taycan Turbo S has also served as the safety car of the E-Prix.
Furthermore, the firm currently participates under the TAG Heuer Porsche team, using the 99X Electric car, which was developed at the same research and development facility in Weissach as the Taycan.
Interestingly, the Taycan Turbo GT's Attack Mode - which can provide repeated, temporary boosts of up to 120kW of extra power - is based on technology derived from the 99X Electric.
The brand believes that its commitment to the world championship underlines the leading role it plays among legacy carmakers in the areas of electrification, sustainability and technology, while helping it glean valuable insights for electric series-production sports cars.
