15 Apr 2024|64 views
Volvo has announced that it has switched its Taizhou plant in China to run on biogas, making the site its first Chinese plant to achieve climate-neutral status after its Torslanda facility in Gothenburg, Sweden. The plant was already utilising climate neutral electricity, but now utilises biogas to deliver climate-neutral heating.
The firm states that this move will reduce its carbon emissions by more than 7,000 tonnes per year and marks another step in its goal of reduce emission across its global operations, as well as to achieve climate-neutral manufacturing by 2025. Volvo is aiming to reach the goal of net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2040.
The Volvo Taizhou plant currently produces 40% of its electricity thanks to the use of on-site solar panels, while its remaining 60% of electricity demand comes from other climate-neutral solar sites.
Volvo states that it has made good progress towards it climate action targets, having seen a 74% reduction in its CO2 emissions from its total operations since 2019.
