Interested in seeing your own art - crafted on our very shores - eventually go out into the world? Hyundai has announced an open call for entries to the sixth edition of its VH AWARD series.
Since 2016, the award has provided emerging artists with a platform to showcase their creative expression, and engage in discussions on diverse cultural and socio-political issues. Interestingly, the fifth edition of VH AWARDS was organised in partnership with our very own National Arts Council, as part of Singapore Art Week.
For the sixth edition, artists - both collective and individual - can submit proposals for their audiovisual screen-based artworks via the VH AWARD website from 9 May to 5 July 2024. Specifically, Hyundai states that entries should reflect the context of Asia.
An internal panel of professional jurors from the art world will review the proposals, before selecting five finalists based on originality, aesthetics, compelling conception and innovation, quality of presentation, and finally, sophisticated employment of technology.
The finalists will then receive a $25,000 grant to create new artwork and participate in an online residency program led by Eyebeam, which is a non-profit art and technology center based in New York. The residency will happen before the final submission of the new artwork.
The Grand Prix recipient - or the overall winner - is set to be announced in June 2025, and will go on to receive an additional grant of $25,000. The artworks of both the Grand Prix recipient and finalists will be presented worldwide across various art institutions and platforms.
