Volkswagen has announced exciting plans to grow its range of sporty GTX models with the double world premiere of the ID.3 GTX and the ID.7 GTX Tourer.
The two models will join the brand's pre-existing duo of performance electric vehicles (EVs): The ID.4 GTX, and the ID.5 GTX. Volkswagen says that each of these two models already account for one in five cars sold within each model lineup, evincing their appeal to customers.
The rear-wheel driven ID.3 GTX will be released in two variants, with the top-of-the-line model, the ID.3 GTX Performance, fittingly equipped with Volkswagen's DCC adaptive chassis control system.
Interestingly, Volkswagen states that this variant functions as the electric counterpart to the highly-revered, lightweight Golf GTI Clubsport - though it is also quick to acknowledge that each car has its own unique character, owing to their different drivetrains.
Visually, the ID.3 GTX model stands out from the rest of the range thanks to its GTX-specific front bumper, complete with new independent black air intakes in a diamond-style design, which are accompanied by new daytime running lights.
Black elements on the body, including newly designed side sills and the rear end diffuser, are all also finished in high-gloss on the ID.3 GTX. Rounding off the sporty look, 20-inch Skagen alloy wheels come as standard with this model too.
Additionally, the cabin of the ID.3 GTX is fitted with premium sports seats which come in both fabric and leatherette, underlining its sporty character.
The model will also contain classic GTX design elements, such as the red decorative stitching, which can be seen on both the seats and the steering wheel. Beyond that, this model is equipped with a GTX-specific cockpit surface.
The ID.7 GTX Tourer, on the other hand, debuts as the most powerful model in the product lineup - while also claiming the honour of being the brand's most powerful estate built to date. Volkswagen intends for this model to embody a "new type of sporty mobility by combining the spaciousness of a large estate with the performance of a sports car".
Unlike the rear-wheel-driven ID.3 GTX, however, the model is equipped with a dual-motor all-wheel drive system.
Fans of the Volkswagen brand should know that the ID.7 Tourer was properly unveiled just a month ago before going on pre-sale last week. Visually distinguishing between that car and this spruced up performance variant shouldn't be difficult. The ID.7 GTX Tourer is marked by a more aggressive-looking front bumper with a honeycomb grille, and GTX-specific light graphics which include illuminated badges.
Elsewhere, the ID.7 GTX Tourer is similar to the ID.3 GTX: It's fitted with the same wheels, and also sports the same sort of black high gloss accents all over its body.
On the inside, the cabin of this model is fitted with individual seats which can be heated in the front and contains GTX lettering on the backrests. Red accents can be seen throughout the car, such as the red piping on the seats, red seams on the dash panel and door trims, and finally the red decorative stitching on the GTX-specific multi-function steering wheel.
Despite all of its sportier ambitions, the ID.7 GTX Tourer will not be any less practical than non-performance variants of the model, boasting a luggage compartment capacity of up to 1,724 litres.
Volkswagen states that both GTX models will receive an official launch soon, with more details on the powertrains to follow.
