Hyundai has announced that its Ioniq 5 N will be competing at the 102nd iteration of the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb come 23 June 2024.
The firm will be fielding two 641bhp cars, which will go after the 'Electric Production SUV/Crossover' record as part of a four-car effort. These two cars will be driven firstly by Paul Dallenbach, a veteran and 11-time winner at Pikes Peak. Dallenbach will be accompanied by Ron Zaras, who is a rookie to Pike Peak but a former Hoonigan executive and was chosen to showcase the story of a motorsport enthusiast preparing to compete at the event.
Hyundai states that these cars will be competing in the hillclimb event practically unchanged from the regular Ioniq 5 N, save for modifications necessary to comply with safety regulations which include the replacement of the driver’s seat with a Recaro Pro Racer SPA Hans seat, complete with Sabelt six-point HANS compatible seat belts. The cars also have had their rear seats removed, and have been fitted with a roll cage and a fire suppression system.
These two cars will be further accompanied by two modified examples of the Ioniq 5 N, which will be driven by four-time overall winner and King of the Mountain title holder at Pikes Peak Robin Shute and Dani Sordo, Spanish World Rally Championship Driver for Hyundai Motorsport.
