What Others Think of The Nominees

Price:Price is subjective but imho you get what you pay for. The i4's build quality is quintessentially German. Sit down in the cabin and everything feels premium and generally well built. Tesla Model 3 on the other hand feels comparatively cheap and less sturdy, but again you get what you pay for and you benefit from the superior battery technology in Tesla.Handling/Performance:Steering is accurate and responsive. When put through its paces, despite its hefty weight and thanks to the instantaneous torque from its rear mounted electric motor, its really easy to hit illegal speeds without noticing. Yes you can do the same in the model 3, but it doesnt give the same level of driver feedback that the i4 does. It is really the driver centric focus of BMW that sets it apart from Tesla. Its easy to go fast in a straight line but a whole different thing to do it as a complete package.Regenerative braking in "B" Mode takes some getting used to, it can be motion sickness inducing.Exterior:MSport body kit is definitely more sporty and attractive than the previous Luxury line. Car now comes factory fitted with MSport big brake kit. NiceInterior:SG Spec edrive35s do not come with sunroofs which i feel is a shame. The new flat bottom steering wheel is a welcome breath of fresh air. Rear door opening aperture is small but i guess this is to be expected from a gran coupe. The brushed interior trim feels rather gimmicky, im inclined to swap it out for the Mperformance Alcantara trim. IDrive 8.5 is a step up from iDrive8, much easier to navigate. The much raved iconic sounds is futuristic but you soon forget about it.Battery/electric motor:Compared to its eDrive40 big brother, the eDrive35 has a noticeable drop in range and a marginable drop in performance in exchange for "Cheaper" Road tax. This is where Tesla shines, relatively longer range and you dont have to "Worry" About over charging the battery. In order to maximise the battery's lifespan, BMW advises owners to avoid charging the battery over 80 percent; Unless you need it for long drives. This effectively means that you need to charge more frequently.

This is my review after driving it for a 1000kmLikes:Instant torqueQuiet drive Enough space for a family of 4 Feels like a BMW Cost of EV ownershipCould be better:360 degree camera! Adaptive headlights.

Love the drive. Very responsive. Feature rich. You truly know that you're in a premium Sedan. The super customisable OS 8 is the icing on the cake.

Mercedes-Benz EQE Electric
The EQE isn't just a worthy smaller sibling to the EQS, but a worthy electric foil to the hallowed E-Class. Interior space is great thanks to a long wheelbase, while Merc's mastery of ambient lighting shines through. A single motor punching out 288bhp and 565Nm of torque contributes to the EQE's breezy pace, and air suspension easily ensures a supple ride. Still, one of its calling cards is range; its slippery shape and large battery allow it to hit up to 669km!

BMW i4 Electric
As the i4 eDrive35 handily proves, less can be more. Against the eDrive40, this 'only' has 282bhp and 400Nm of torque, and a smaller battery. These are still sizable numbers, though. The powertrain's snappiness means response remains sharp, albeit less shocking. While a silent drive gives the i4 a refined edge over other BMW ICE sedans, it hasn't forgotten its remit as a driving machine. For the best mix of comfort, power and handling? The i4 certainly ticks all the right boxes.
